Brown Soda Bread

I absolutely LOVE this bread, since it is hard to find in the USA i have started to make it myself. My Mother used to make this all the time, so both my sister and I are addicted to it, you can buy it in Ireland from bakerys and it is so good, it took me a few times to get it right and tasting like my Moms. I usually toast it and put butter on it, or eat it with soups and stews..My camera isn’t working so the below image isn’t my bread, it looks exactly the same though.Soda Bread

600 grams of brown wholemeal flour

180 grams of plain (white) flour

2 teaspoons of baking soda

1 teaspoon of salt

1 tablespoon of soft brown sugar

2 tablespoons of olive oil

0,6 litre of buttermilk (sour milk)

Sieve the plain flour and baking soda into a large bowl. Add your wholemeal flour, salt and brown sugar and mix well. Add the olive oil and buttermilk and mix well for 2 minutes with a wooden spoon. Lightly oil a 1kg bread tin. Add the mixture. Put in a preheated oven at exactly 180 C. Bake in preheated oven until golden brown, about 30 to 45 minutes.
