New Year’s Eve is the end of the Yuletide in our house. It is our tradition to start the new year with fire to burn away the leftover issues of the old year and to offer up intentions for the new one. On our Yule log, every member of the house writes an intention, hope, or goal for the new year. I take several branches from our tree and attach notes to them. These are filled with issues from the last year I want to leave behind and good intentions to move forward. I also write out a list of my goals for the year. These can range from learning something new to a personality trait I would like to improve on. All of this is thrown into the fire pit. As it burns we offer everything up to the gods and goddesses, with the hope that they continue to be with us along our path.
