Halloween Fun II

Brooms (Pencils)
A new craze in reading wizard books has brought about interest in Wizard crafts. Here is an easy craft to create some fun to decorate your desk.

This project is rated EASY to do.

What You Need

* Yellow or natural wood-colored pencil
* Double stick tape
* Raffia
* Scissors
* Gold Star Garland
* Wire cutters
* Black thin permanent marker, optional

How To Make It

1. Cut some raffia about 3 1/2 inches long.
2. Cut off a piece of double stick tape long enough to wrap around the metal part of the pencil eraser. Wrap around metal piece.
3. Lay ends of raffia around the pencil, adhering to the tape, with ends sticking up above the eraser.
4. Cut off another piece of double stick tape long enough to wrap around and adhere to the top of the raffia, directly above the other piece of tape.
5. Lay ends of raffia around the pencil, adhering to the tape, with ends sticking up above the eraser.
6. Cut off two pieces of double stick tape long enough to wrap around and adhere one piece to the top of the raffia, directly above the other piece of tape. Adhere the second piece of tape directly below the other piece of tape.
7. Take the Gold Star Garland and start wrapping around the pencil, pressing as you wrap to adhere it to the tape. When you reach the end of the tape, cut the wire, and tuck end inside under previously placed garland.
8. Now you have a broom! Add a name for your broom in black marker, if desired.


All Flavor Jelly Bean Cauldron

A new craze in reading wizard books has brought about interest in Wizard crafts. Here is an easy craft to create to hold your jelly beans, rats, frogs, bats, or other creatures at the party table.

This project is rated VERY EASY to do.

What You Need

* Metal dip container
* 3 Small wooden beads
* Tacky glue
* 3 Large wooden beads
* Gray paint or Gesso
* Paint brush
* Wax paper or plastic bag (to protect work area)

How To Make It

1. Remove label, wash, rinse, and dry container.
2. Lay out wax paper or plastic bag (turn wrong side out) to protect work surface.
3. Paint container and beads with gray paint. Let dry. You may need to apply an additional coat. Let dry.
4. Turn container upside down and glue on beads, evenly spacing around the outside bottom of the container. Let dry.
5. Turn container over and fill with gummy rats, bats, frogs, or other things Wizards may enjoy. Have fun at your party!


Edible Wands

A new craze in reading wizard books has brought about interest in Wizard crafts. Make this for your friends, or throw a Wizard party and make this as a favor.

This project is rated VERY EASY to do.

What You Need

* Pretzel Rods (long thick straight pretzels)
* White frosting in a tub
* Knife or small spatula
* Small bowl
* Star sprinkles (edible)
* Wax paper

How To Make It

1. Scoop out a small amount of frosting and put in a small bowl. Note: The pretzels will make the frosting taste salty, so only take out how much you need. Save the rest of the frosting for icing cookies or graham cracker sandwiches.
2. Dip the pretzel in the frosting and twist and pull the pretzel out of the frosting.
3. Sprinkle with star sprinkles. Press the stars into the frosting, if needed.
4. Place on the wax paper and put in the refrigerator to set up.
5. Now you have an edible wand!

Chocolate Covered Frogs

We found that when coating the entire frog, it appeared as a “lump”. The children liked being able to see the frog on their plates. These gummy type frogs were purchased at our local Mr. Bulky’s store and then coated with chocolate. The kids think they are great!

Parental supervision is recommended.

This project is rated EASY to do.

What You Need

* Gummy style frogs
* Semi-sweet or milk chocolate pieces
* Use of a microwave
* Microwavable measuring cup
* Tea spoon
* Wax paper
* Plate
* Use of a refrigerator

How To Make It

1. Tear off a piece of wax paper and place on plate.
2. Microwave chocolate pieces in measuring cup in 30 second intervals on medium until it melts. Be careful not to burn it!
3. Stir chocolate.
4. Carefully dip the back end of the frog into the chocolate and place on wax-coated plate.
5. Repeat for remaining frogs.
6. Place in refrigerator to set the chocolate.
7. Share with your friends!
